Ear pain is very unpleasant and often comes with pressure in the ear, irritation, and sometimes even partial hearing loss. Not fun! After all, your hearing is an important sense you use every day. Quick relief from these symptoms is therefore desired, but how do you find the cause and what is the solution?
What causes ear pain?
Ear pain is often caused by a blockage in the Eustachian tube. This is an open connection between your ears and your throat and nasal cavities. If the tube is blocked, for example by mucus, the air pressure is no longer equal. The pressure on the eardrum increases, which causes pain.
Ear pain can arise in many ways, such as: swimming, flying, hearing damage, blockages, or infections caused by bacteria or fungi. During air travel, ear pain is caused by pressure differences that occur during takeoff and landing. With blockages or earwax plugs, the pressure comes from the buildup of excess and/or dried earwax.
But ear pain can also come from a cold or after exposure to loud sounds. If you experience persistent ear pain after loud sounds, this could be a sign of early hearing damage.
Symptoms and complaints associated with ear pain
Since the ear is a complex organ connected to the throat, ear pain almost never occurs in isolation. In addition to ear pain, you may also experience:
- Fever
- Tinnitus
- Throbbing or stabbing pain
- Ringing
- Itching
- Feeling of fullness
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Toothache
- Cold
- Diarrhea
How can you quickly relieve ear pain?
If you experience a combination of symptoms or have prolonged ear pain, take it seriously. Our advice is to contact your doctor to discover the cause.
Prevent ear pain: care for and protect your ears
Ear pain from colds, infections, or the flu is harder to prevent. But irritations or pain from excess earwax and ear plugs can be prevented. Earwax is a natural substance that keeps your ear clean from the inside. However, buildup or excess production of earwax can cause problems.
The Alpine ear care products are specially designed to dissolve earwax plugs and prevent them. The Removal Drops provide fast relief from earwax plugs, and the 100% natural Hygiene Spray helps keep your ears soft, hydrated, and clean.
Protect your ears
Pain from hearing damage can be prevented. Most situations where hearing damage occurs are predictable and can be planned in advance. Therefore, prepare well and use appropriate hearing protection. For a club night, festival, or concert, the Alpine PartyPlugs are suitable, and for racing events, DIY projects, and other noisy situations, we recommend our earmuffs. Also suitable for children!
