Types of Hearing Protection

Hearing Protection in Different Types and Sizes
From yellow foam plugs to custom-made ear molds (otoplastics). Each type of hearing protection has its specific properties.

Plugs
Visitors to factories or construction sites are often given these plugs. They are inexpensive. The downside is that they can irritate the ear. If inserted with dirty hands, they may cause an outer ear infection. For single use only.

Foam Balls

These completely block hearing, giving you the sensation of being fully cut off from the outside world. Cheap, but slightly more expensive than yellow plugs. For single use only.

Ear Muffs

Available in various designs. They can, for example, be attached to a safety helmet. There are also special earmuffs for children who want to concentrate while studying. The muff completely covers the ear. Depending on the plastic used, it may irritate the skin around the ear, especially in hot weather.

Silicone Plugs

These are somewhat similar to yellow plugs but made from a less irritating material. These plugs only cover the ear canal and should not be inserted into the ear. There is always a chance they may fall off. For single use only.

Universal Earplugs

Now the most popular type of earplugs. They sufficiently block the ear canal, but the lamella system prevents the wearer from feeling completely cut off from the outside world.

The filter system allows users to adjust the level of attenuation themselves. This system was invented by Alpine Hearing Protection. You can find the various types of universal earplugs here.

Otoplastics

Custom-made hearing protection. Motorcyclists and musicians often have otoplastics fitted. This type of hearing protection fits perfectly and can last for years. Alpine Hearing Protection offers otoplastics with various attenuation levels.
